Saab has gone, but its cars and its loyal band of owners remain. In this photographic album, internationally known Saab author and commentator Lance Cole celebrates all things Saab.

In a collection of over 200 photographic images accompanied by a detailed yet engaging commentary, the book delivers a record of Saab from its first car to its last. The engineering, design, and ethos of Saab's cars across the generations are captured in all their glory.

The author of many Saab articles and several Saab books, this is Lance Cole’s new view on Sweden's other car maker – one that really did build cars to a different standard.

Saab Celebration is designed to be a memorial companion for the Saab fan. If you like Saabs, then enjoy this tribute to all things Saab.

"A book for real Saabists and sympathizers!"

AUTO BILD KLASSIK - 2/2024

Lance Cole’s knowledge and enthusiasm for SAAB’s history is impressive and somewhat contagious.

If you are looking for an automotive pick me-up on these cold; damp and long winter nights, then Saab Celebration should be at the top of your list. It is a fitting, and heartfelt tribute to the erstwhile, and much-lamented marque. I enjoyed reading it, and I confident that you will too.

The book begins with the usual acknowledgements and dedications. The introduction goes from the first Saab prototype in 1947 up to present day or as far as it can, as the vehicle is no longer produced. The book is divided into 4 Chapters as follows, ‘92.001: Early Saabism’, ’99: Stylish Swede’ ‘900: Classic Saab’ and finally ‘9000, 9-3, 9-5: Old Saab to New Saab’ Each chapter is well set out with a description followed up with various colour photographs. The titles of each are self-explanatory I think, however, having owned two Saabs all makes perfect sense to me. Having, as I say, owned two Saabs then this publication is of particular interest and enjoyment to me. As ever, Lance Cole has again excelled in an easy format but covering the subject very well

Bought for one of the men in the family who is crazy about Saab. He loved it.

Beautifully presented. Superb photographs.

Very good model by model photographic reference especially for the rarely seen Sonett. Publisher Pen & Sword are to be commended for fine photo reproduction. Net, Net, this book belongs in every library concerning post-war automobiles.

Saab Celebration is the perfect coffee table sized book for discerning Saab enthusiasts. Packed with bright, colourful high quality photography. Narrative underpinned by a genuine warmth and an affinity with the brand which avoids the melancholy, acrimony and point scoring so frequently associated with Saab related works.

Enjoyable and easy to read.

Saab Celebration should be at the top of your list.

Car and Driver

A very interesting book about a unusual, and now extinct, car brand. Saabs have always been quirky cars. The author does an excellent job describing what makes Saab unique. Excellent pictures. Text provides a good degree of detail on the history of the brand and individual models.

Saab Celebration by Lance Cole is tribute to the vehicles as well as those who love them. I only owned one Saab and I loved it, though it wasn't enough to make me want only Saabs (admittedly because I tend to like variety and there are only a few makes that I owned multiple iterations of).

I was mostly drawn to the book for the pictures and would have been content with just a brief history. Instead, I got a more in depth history as well as a book length love letter to the car. And I enjoyed the vast majority of it.

This is definitely one that any Saab enthusiast will want, as well as most car lovers who lament the passing of brands into the past. Both an enjoyable read and an attractive book.

As a SAAB owner, I was curious about the book and enjoyed learning about those of us who are SAAB enthusiasts. From the first one I owned, a 9-3 Convertible, I knew instinctively this was my car. It was refreshing to read in the book that indeed, there are people who are SAAB people and, conversely, people who are not. My husband is one who is not, and when we first saw my first SAAB, when I told him that was what I wanted, he insisted that no, I didn't. One test drive behind the wheel was all it took. Reading this book helped me understand and perhaps put into words much of how I feel as a SAAB owner.

It was fascinating to learn the history of the car I love so much, even though people would now say I don't own a "true SAAB", being on my third one which is a 2008. Still, My 9-3 was the car of my heart, much as is explained by Mr. Cole in this book. It helped me understand why I feel as I do toward my car and it put into words much of what I've been trying to say.

So, thanks, Mr. Cole, for writing a book that expresses how a SAAB enthusiast feels, and helping me understand better how that sets me in a group of other SAAB enthusiast. The book was fascinating, with excellent detail on the history of the car. It's one I think any SAAB enthusiast would enjoy having in full hard-bound form so they could put it on the coffee table for others to see.

About Lance Cole

Lance Cole has been a motoring and aviation writer and PR for over 30 years. He is also an internationally published photographer, illustrator and designer. The author of over 20 books, he has a parallel career as a news correspondent and TV camera-journalist. But it is old cars and their design and driving that fascinates him. He has driven Saabs all over the world and contributed to Saab design when he was a young design student. Lance wrote Erik Carlsson’s obituary for the Daily Telegraph.
Lance currently lives in England but yearns for a return to the outback of Australia where old cars rule.
