By using the diaries, letters, photographs and recollections, the conditions under which the regimental soldiers and their officers fulfilled their specialist responsibilities in holding the line or in battle on the Western Front are brought close to the reader. In most cases the evidence has not been published before, and in this respect the 230 illustrations are an outstanding element in the book. Professor Liddle is arguably the foremost authority on the subject.
As featured in Essence Magazine.
Overall this is a great book to have, to understand the experience of the soldier, and the theatres within which he served.
