The Falklands War of 1982 was a brief 74 days of intense warfare resulting in the losses of 255 British Service personnel and just three civilians.
Many books have been written with varying accounts about the military action, this book is the personal stories of the men behind the uniforms, the untold details of the three civilians who died towards the end of the war.
Whilst researching the backgrounds of the fallen links to other military campaigns come to life through the personal stories of these brave men and their forebears. These stories are often unknown even to family members but ensure their immortality.
We say ‘Lest We Forget’ this book is a stark reminder of how easy it is to lose history should we not document it.
I received my copy in time for Remembrance - such an emotive time of year - each and every casualty is honoured with the same dignity and respect, regardless of rank, service or award. To know that the author penned the words for her own husband’s entry and the painstaking, meticulous background research over so many years only adds more credence and gravitas to the writing, which paints pictures of these individuals as just that- individuals rather than just one of the 258. She’s achieved what no one else has- recognition of the family lives of each and every Fallen in any conflict.

The Falklands Fallen, written by Jay Morgan Hyrons is a poignant tribute written with compassion and empathy by an author who writes with her own heart wrenching experience of someone who knows of the deep sadness of the loss of a loved one in the Falklands war. The book written sympathetically brings us a fleeting moment in the lives of the names on the roll call of those who gave their all, for the freedom of the Falklands Islanders and remain on patrol forever. Reading this book we get to know the men behind the uniforms through research and speaking to families, who once led ordinary lives echoing the sentiment that every casualty carries with it a personal story of sacrifice, and one day with very little warning went off to war, and now they are our heroes. I know my youngest brother is among them.
