War in sharp focus - a compelling photo memoir.
Overall, the title succeeds in its mission to humanise the conflict in Ukraine, offering an emotionally resonant portrayal of its citizens' experience. It also serves as a compelling reminder of the importance of bearing witness to the stories of those affected by war and the power of photography as a narrative tool and form of advocacy. From the comfort of the UK, the fighting in Ukraine can often seem distant, but it's by no means clear if the war will remain confined. This book, therefore, serves as a stark, necessary reminder of what unfolds when conflict engulfs a nation.''

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars I love this book. This one is clearly written by the UK-based author for a UK-based audience since some of the terminology is different (Using the term "rebate" instead of "rabbet," for example.). But, aside from that, I found the book easy to follow with great advice for creating your own frames, including the matte/backing for the artwork or photos, mounting hardware and advice for where to purchase materials and tools. It even includes a section on how to gild a frame: that looks like fun! Most woodworking/DIY titles assume you have expensive tools like a table saw, band saw, and miter saw, but this book guides you through creating beautiful frames with the most basic tools and materials. I wish more DIY titles did that! People with more woodworking experience and expensive tools could still follow the steps in this book to create beautiful frames, but I think the instructions are clear enough for a novice to follow using basic tools. I got a free copy.. Read more

I am reading second edition of this scientific feast that is published every year. It is for astronomers both academic and amateurs. It is kind of encyclopedia. I liked story on voyager one and effect of starlink satellites on astronomy. Book is full of wonderful insights about upcoming astronomical events and has spotlight on heroes of the past.

It's interesting, nonetheless, especially if you like insects, which dominate these pages. If you're curious what shares your home, give this a look.

I admit to wanting to review this book mainly on the basis of the picture of the red squirrel on the front cover. Whilst I have many squirrels (many) in my garden, none of them are red and I would love to see one in reality one day. Page 200 gives a good list of places where they may be seen. Suitably happy at my quest for a red squirrel was answered, I moved on to look at the 99 other wildlife experiences covered. What a great list it is: from glow worms to beavers to Booming Bitterns and snowdrops. What I like very much about the book is that each listed experience comes with a rating of: family friendly, budget friendly, amateur friendly, best time of year and whether they have toilets or not. All very important criteria for a day out. So if you decide to go hunting Orcas it does warn you that you need to be patient and that you might be disappointed. I enjoyed this book, it has handy map to show you where things can be found. I was thinking this would be a great book to take with me.. Read more
