The war at sea is a horror best reserved for those with strong stomachs, the threat of U-Boats in particular left seamen at constant threat in the shipping channels and not even civilian ships were safe. These great ships of war were a mixture of capabilities, they were battle ships, air craft carriers, frigates, landing craft and so on but each had its role to play. These DVDs tell the story of this war on the water that saw many men succumb to the waters of oceans like the Atlantic and Pacific.
Wonderful footage taken from both sides of the Battle of the Atlantic. Featuring battleships, aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, transports and U-Boats in action, this documentary describes the course of this most decisive of battles from 1939 to 1944, outlining the strategic difficulties faced by the Kriegsmarine in the initial phases, the tactics which they then developed to inflict terrible damage on the convoys, and, ultimately, the technologies and practices adopted by the Allies which turned the tide against the U-Boats; making the hunters the hunted.

The images are fascinating giving a clear impression of how important these massive warships were to become.
All in all this DVD would make a good companion to any collection of reference material on either Bismarck, Tirpitz or a study of the Kriegsmarine in general and would surely be of inspiration to anyone modelling one of the featured warships

The vessels of the Yamato class were the largest, heaviest and most heavily-armed battleships ever constructed. These awesome navy vessels carried the largest naval artillery ever fitted to a warship. In order to understand these epic battleships and their importance, this DVD looks at the evolution of the Japanese fleet after the Battle of Tsushima in 1905, and goes on to explain and document how the ships were subsequently developed. Owing to strict secrecy, it was impossible for decades to show the original archive footage of these huge ships, while many of the design documents and photographs were destroyed by Japanese special service-officers, meaning only fragmentary records remained.
