HMS Belfast: Cruiser 1939 ePub (30.5 MB) Add to Basket | £6.99 |
HMS Belfast, originally a Royal Navy light cruiser, is now permanently moored on the Thames in London. One of ten Town-class cruisers she saw service on the icy Arctic convoys during the Second World War and was also present for the bombardment of the D-Day beaches in 1944. Later, she saw service during the Korean War.
As is the case for many historic ships, however, there is a surprising shortage of informative and well illustrated guides, for reference during a visit or for research by enthusiasts - ship modellers, naval buffs, historians or students. This new series redresses the gap.
Written by experts and containing more than 200 specially commissioned photographs, each title takes the reader on a superbly illustrated tour of the ship, from bow to stern and deck by deck. Significant parts of the vessel – for example, the gun turrets and engine rooms – are given detailed coverage both in words and pictures, so that the reader has at hand the most complete visual record and explanation of the ship that exists. In addition, the importance of the ship, both in her own time and now as a museum vessel, is explained, while her design and build, and her career prior to exhibition are all described.
No other books offer such superb visual impact and detailed information as the Seaforth Historic Ship Series – a truly groundbreaking concept bringing the ships of our past vividly to life.
As seen in Discover Britain Magazine.
A detailed photographic essay is always valuable to modelers and historians, especially to those of us on the wrong side of the pond who may never have the opportunity to see her in person. This is a particularly well done walk through, recommended to anyone interested in ships or museums. The only room for improvement would be to produce the book in a larger format to better enjoy the photography... Recommended, pick this one up!

All the main photographs are new, and each has been given an informative caption that guides the reader on a 'virtual journey' around the ship.. This title is an admirable guide to the vessel, one which can be enjoyed in the living room as much as onboard.
Warship Annual
If you are a warship modeler and have an interest in vessels of the British steel navy, then this title would be a worthy addition to your library. A veritable feast for the eyes of the modeler.
Nautical Research Journal
The author and publisher are to be congratulated for producing a superbly illustrated deck by deck guide to the preserved cruiser Belfast. This book deserves to be on the bookshelf of all warship enthusiasts.
Marine News
The book is mainly provided with text in the form of photo captions. What makes the book are the outstanding images and the book is primarily dedicated to HMS Belfast in preservation. Ten chapters provide a detailed description of the parts of the ship, the work of preservation and recommended further reading. The book stands on its photographic content. It is lavishly illustrated. There are some drawings which add valuable detail. It is a visual treat, superbly well illustrated and visually stunning.
Nighthawk News
The book stands on its photographic content, it is lavishly illustrated. There are some drawings which add valuable detail, but illustration is mainly photographic and predominantly in full colour. It is a visual treat and provided at an extremely aggressive low price. Good gloss paper stock has been used and this results in pin-sharp images that are well-lit.
