Brilliant! A wealth of information, packed full of facts and anecdotes. Pubs have such a rich history and atmosphere, particularly in the not so distant past. This book carefully charts some of these locals in enjoyable detail and with a sense of reverence and respect. There are some vastly different backgrounds to the pubs in question, from former hunting lodges of Henry VIII to drug dens, to hubs of the local community. I was particularly moved by the gentleman who’d been using one of them as his local for the past thirty years and who cried when he was told it was closing and I loved the tale of the pub which boasted to be the only one with a swimming pool (what could possibly go wrong there?!). Some great references to famous people too, notably musicians and the part these premises played in their bands’ creation. The only problem is that I now want to go and visit all of these boozers, with their rich tapestries of history but, of course, they’ve all ceased existing in the.. Read more

"...I would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in Yorkshire genealogy. There are many websites here to get even experienced Yorkshire researchers on their computer."

I have read a book on a similar topic before, which was published in 1994. As the author reminds us of the last attempt at a monarchist coup in Germany, it proves one thing – the topic is still relevant and worth exploring.
I was very impressed by the structure of the book. I learned a lot of new things, for example, about Portuguese history, which I believe is not as well-known. Each chapter was very well organized, and the events were clearly described. The text is engaging and informative, which allowed me to learn a lot.
This book is a great contribution to the literature on monarchies and their falls.

I love this so much! It's such a great guide for those of us who love thrillers, horror, crime, and action movies and TV shows. It takes you on an in depth tour of London and the places that set the scene for movies and TV shows from classics like James Bond, to newer hits like the Netflix original series 'You'. This book would make an excellent gift for anyone wanting to take a exciting tour of this wonderful city.

Sailing into the Past
Until recently, there was little practical knowledge of the ships of the distant past. We could only surmise as to the manner in which a Viking ship sailed or how fast a Greek trireme could be rowed.
