"Churchill's morphing character is juxtaposed against the changing world in the post-World War One era, with key events such as the Bolshevik Revolution and subsequent civil war in Russia, upheaval in the Middle East, and rise of Fascism all covered in detail... Harte was born in 1925, he has lived through the many changes brought by the 20th century and there are few as well placed as him to profile Churchill in context. This book is a neat blend of social commentary with the story of a powerful character in his rise to ascendency. A considered study and recommended."

‘This wonderful book brings Sir Winston Churchill to life in a powerful and original way. To focus on the objects that he worked with, relaxed with, and often delighted in allows us to see Churchill in a new light, and no one could be more expert guides to them than Phil Reed and Anthony Richards.’

A Blog on Winston Churchill
The premise of the book, a raid by the Germans on the South coast of England in WW2, is quite fascinating but weirdly still seems mired in secrecy. The author has undertaken a significant amount of research and cross-checking of various eyewitness accounts and official reporting... I found the book to be well-written, enlightening, and enjoyable to dip in and out of.

Winston Churchill: Portrait of an Unquiet Mind
Dr Andrew Norman approaches Churchill's state of mind from an entirely new medical angle, disproving the commonly held views of medical experts. Lord Moran, Winston's doctor, who was a physician not a psychiatrist, admitted to being powerless to help his patient, who understood all was not well, not understanding his mental condition. The book also… Read more...
