This volume features some of the beautiful and illuminating artworks created by the artists who traveled with European explorers. It also includes excerpts of the writings of the explorers. These histories are fascinating but often horrifyingly colonialist. It's a startling look into the minds of the Europeans of this era.

This is a beautiful book. The watercolour sketches are so simple yet so intricate. I love the style of sketching with the soft watercolours set to them.
Each brief description gives a little extra insight into the sketches. It was like a small tour through the eyes of the artist.

"If you are looking for a glossy coffee-table book to impress guests with, you could do worse than this beautifully illustrated biography of Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson.
But this is much more than just an impressive looking tome. An Artists Life is a compelling book looking back on the life and work of the self-styled 'Yorkshire Artist' now in his 70th Year, whose watercolor paintings have become synonymous with country landscapes."
