This is a fascinating book on the conflict written by an officer who clearly has a great deal of knowledge. It is interesting that he makes it very clear that Ukraine was invaded, rather than the suggestion that was made by the White House recently, that it was the other way around. The scene is well set before the detail on a number of battles during 2023. The narrative is packed with statistics that are not generally available, some of which are:- “The support package from the US for one F16 is the same cost as 27,637 155mm artillery shells.” “In August Crowd Funding purchased 10,000 drones” “ultimately in this year 100,000 drones of all types were manufactured and sent to the front” “In 2 months of fighting one Ukrainian Brigade had lost 50 of it 99 Bradley IFV”. The writer draws a number of parallels with the 2nd WW. As an example the initial drone strikes on Moscow are compared to the Doolittle raid on Tokyo. To me the book demonstrates the change in warfare that drones.. Read more

War in sharp focus - a compelling photo memoir.
Overall, the title succeeds in its mission to humanise the conflict in Ukraine, offering an emotionally resonant portrayal of its citizens' experience. It also serves as a compelling reminder of the importance of bearing witness to the stories of those affected by war and the power of photography as a narrative tool and form of advocacy. From the comfort of the UK, the fighting in Ukraine can often seem distant, but it's by no means clear if the war will remain confined. This book, therefore, serves as a stark, necessary reminder of what unfolds when conflict engulfs a nation.''

For anyone seeking a very rudimentary view of drones, this book might be a starting point. There is also a very useful glossary of terms at the front of the book.

Introducing the author. James had an incredible 35 years serving with both the US Army Special Forces & the CIA. His own first-hand experiences & knowledge clearly shine through in the telling of this true story. The phrases 'Counter Terrorism' & 'Unconventional Warfare' seem like more modern methods to be used against an enemy. Yet this book goes back to a Berlin at the centre of the Cold War. Here the author provides a fascinating brief history of the Special Forces team known as 'Detachment A', which was based in Berlin. We learn that quickly after the second world war ended, new methods were being trained for & tested incase of war with the Soviets. This also included training teams from other countries, including Germany. Being on constant readiness, six seperate teams had to speak the language & blend into everyday Berlin life. Should the Cold War escalate these teams would enter East Germany within two hours to "wreak havoc behind enemy lines". From gathering intelligence, sabotaging.. Read more

An interesting look at games based on movies, some really interesting information in it. A must read for game (and movie) fans!
