Originally a thesis, this is a heavily annotated analysis of the German romance Lanzelet , written c. 1200, which is the only Lancelot story not to include the knight's affair with Guinevere. McLelland examines the narrative style of the romance and argues that the work is firmly part of the Arthurian tradition, with the same motifs and courtly vocabulary, whilst also exploring the origin of the work as a source of entertainment.
