This book covers an important aspect of British bus provision that has not been fully documented before. The Mercedes-Benz Midibus may have been small, but it had a huge impact. It became well respected by fleet engineers and served its purpose well. This story is not just about a successful vehicle, it focuses on several small coachbuilding businesses that rose to the forefront of the British manufacturing industry, through the work of their designers, craftsmen and salesmen. The variety that the Mercedes-Benz Midibus offered was quite remarkable!
Well, I duly went out and bought your book, confident in the knowledge that anything created by you could be expected to be good, even if the subject matter might not be to everybody's choice! I am (of course!) glad that I did.
Customer Review
The Mercedes-Benz Midibus is a rich seam of fascinating material from which the reader can mine knowledge and understanding! It's rare to find a work these days that goes somewhere new - but your book does just that!
I read it from start to finish and enjoyed it all. Your subject matter has obviously drawn you in and you share your enthusiasm and interest in a compelling way.
The real test of a good book is whether the author gets the bits right that the reader knows something more than the ordinary about. For me that was the case of Badgerline 3912. As Managing Director of FirstBus Transit Developments at the time, I was intimately and directly involved in the conversion of E350 AMR to hybrid drive as Provincial's No 100. I looked it up [P.120] and you tell the story accurately. That was great to see and leads me to think that the rest of it will be pretty authoritative, too!
At any rate, this is an excellent book. Many thanks for bringing us an excellent publication.
"The book is extensively illustrated in colour, with some 220 photographs. Members will know the meticulous detail for which the author is known, and will not be disappointed by this latest volume."

About Allan Macfarlane
ALLAN MACFARLANE was brought up in the city where Bristol bus chassis were built and he became fascinated by the firm’s products. This lead to him researching their chassis and body designs thoroughly. He is now credited as one of the experts on the Bristol marque. He is a keen photographer, combining both interests in writing articles, initially for Buses Illustrated in the 1960s. He has had ten books published, including The Bristol KSW (with Graham Jones), Bristol Omnibus Company, 1936-1983, two editions of the South West Buses handbooks (one with the late Geoff Bruce), Coachwork by Bristol Tramways and the fully-detailed, four-volume work, The Bristol VR on Home Ground. His appetite for thorough research has continued, by turning to other, less well-documented makes.
