Every golf course around the world has one thing in common – they are all unique. Golf provides a different experience wherever you go. No two courses are ever the same and each has their own captivating story to tell.
Blessed with a rich and varied landscape, England has a prolific collection of coastal links and inland courses created by some of golf’s most cherished craftsmen; Sunningdale (Park Jr. & Colt), Walton Heath (Fowler), St Enodoc (Braid), Alwoodley and Moortown (MacKenzie) to name just a few.
This guide offers a golfer everything they would require to enjoy a great round of golf at the best courses England has to offer. All the information you need is right here - par scores, yardage, green-fee price indicators, booking procedure, history of each club and how best to play the course.
England is where golf’s greatest artists have gifted us moments to treasure for eternity. A young Ballesteros lifting the claret jug at Royal Lytham & St Annes, Bobby Jones storming to victory at Hoylake on his way to the grand slam, and who can ever forget Nicklaus and Jacklin bringing their titanic Ryder Cup battle to a close with a famous handshake at Royal Birkdale.
Sharing a border with its spiritual home, England is undoubtedly golf's exquisite front garden.
Golf courses may well be shut, but you can swot up on the best to play with The Golf Lover’s Guide to England. St George’s Hill Golf Club (both the red and the blue course) and Walton Health Golf Club’s old and new course are among those that feature in the guide, which offers a golfer everything they require to enjoy a great round.

Golf lover? I’m not – my mortifying experiences caddying for my dad as a child are enough to put me off. But I’ve been enjoying The Golf Lover’s Guide to England by Michael Whitehead because it contains quite a lyrical look at all the different courses & how they were formed.
Golfers like to take their golf clubs wherever they go, so what could be better than this guide? Fantastic stocking filler idea too. It made me want to book holidays in the various locations. Loved the fact each entry started with the history of each golf course. Lovely photography and great information to make each club visited enjoyable. I’ve played some of these courses, but many more to go at! Think I might be ordering the Scottish version of this book too.

About Michael Whitehead
Michael Whitehead is the author of the inaugural book in this series, ‘The Golf Lover’s Guide To Scotland’, described as “immaculately designed and crammed with beautiful photography…as essential as rain gear and extra golf balls when packing for your next trip to Scotland.”
Since he was a young man, Whitehead, like most modest handicappers, has shared an unrequited love affair with the game of golf. He has, and will always, love playing it, watching it and writing about it.
