In 2009 Irving Finkel became the first to translate a cuneiform tablet which, it transpired, contained a new version of the Babylonian flood myth, including detailed instructions for the construction of an ark. Here he makes his findings available to a non-specialist readership, and outlines a new theory as to the transmission of the flood myth.
