Another great title in the Images of War series. Showing rare images from WW2 of a selection of tank wrecks of the Western Front. It’s a great reference for diorama modellers and the information given on the development of the tank during the war years, is extremely helpful. Thank you Anthony for a fascinating addition to the series.

This new book from the popular Images of War series published by Pen & Sword brings readers a collection of rare photos from wartime archives, and in particular tank wrecks of the Western Front, which may well appeal to the model maker more than the vehicle enthusiast. That said, there is an interesting collection of photos within the book that cover a variety of tanks, which include the likes of the French Hotchkiss, Renault 35/40, Char B1 British Vickers, Matilda, Churchill and Sherman, as well as the German Panzer I, II, III and IV, along with the larger Panther and Tiger I and II.

This latest Images of War volume has chilling, sometimes eerie photographs of tanks left by both axis and allied troops as they retreated from battle or ploughed on with the purpose of liberation.

Another interesting book from this series and you really do learn a lot from them. This book is divided into a number of chapters such Sherman tanks, Churchill tanks etc but it isn't just the standard tank that you see. There is a variety of each tank that were made to deal with certain situations such as clearing minefields.



I really can recommend this series of books but not only do you have the pictures the text and information around the photos are so good stories. They also give you a better understanding when you can see the actual phots or of what went on. For example, the tanks look like such huge machines, yet when you see the wrecks they look like little weak tin machines.

The book is the companion of a volume also published by Pen & Sword which describes the wrecks on the eastern front (where the numbers of tanks were enormous) and together they form an excellent compendium of the various tanks used in the Second World War. Once again a book from the "Images of War" series that cannot be missing from the shelves of tanks and WWII fans.

Armorama

This is an excellent title that contains many black and white illustrations. This book should appeal widely to armour scale modellers mainly because it contains so many period photographs that show multiple options for how you can finish and present your subject.

Clearly the subject matter of this book has a dark side in terms of the individual stories surrounding each wreck and that is acknowledged.
