In the last years of the Second World War the Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) and Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV) played a vital role as assault guns during the German army’s struggle to block the Allied advance on the Western Front. As the Wehrmacht’s tank forces declined, these armoured vehicles were thrown into every defensive operation. They are not as well known as the Tigers and Panthers, but German resistance would have been much weaker without them. They were also among the most frequently encountered German armoured vehicles on the battlefields, which is why they are such a fascinating subject for Dennis Oliver in this volume in the TankCraft series

He uses archive photos and extensively researched colour illustrations to examine the StuG III and StuG IV deployed by the German army and the Waffen-SS during these doomed campaigns. A key section of his book displays available model kits and aftermarket products, complemented by a gallery of beautifully constructed and painted models in various scales. Technical details as well as modifications introduced during production and in the field are also examined providing everything the modeller needs to recreate an accurate representation of these historic armoured vehicles.

"This is an invaluable book for modellers of military vehicles and those interested in military history, and is thoroughly recommended"

Geoff Davy, IPMS Magazine No. 4, 2021

Another great issue of the Tank Craft series. The Stug has always been a great kit and all the best ones are mentioned in this must have reference book.

This book will appeal to fans of German WWII armour, modellers, wargamers and historians alike. Modellers should find many an interesting scene to depict within its pages and information on how to get the resources to model one. Given all the excellent Stug kits available and the popularity of the subject, this title should not disappoint and is well worth adding to the library.

Highly Recommended.

Oliver knows a lot about Stugs, and has the ability to transfer his knowledge in this quite short (64 pages) but large size book in the excellent TankCraft series.

Miniaturas JM

Pen and Sword's series on land craft and tank craft continues with an intimate look at the German Army's Stug III and Stug IV. Again, I suspect the people who will benefit most from this publication will be model makers, but it's fascinating stuff anyway.

An extremely impressive title!

Scale Modelling Now

A welcome addition to a very popular series aimed at model makers and military vehicle enthusiasts. Circumstances forced the Germans to find creative ways of keeping obsolescent armoured vehicles current and the STUG III & IV are classics of this – Highly Recommended.

Military Model Scene, Robin Buckland

Dennis Oliver has garnered a place with me as a firm favourite due to his writing style and how information is presented to the reader. This is the last of the Tank Craft series for me to cover at the moment and I had to wait for this one to be restocked, but that wait was more than worth it. I do not know if it is because I have a soft spot for the Stug or that the book has a more appealing layout, but I really enjoyed this release. The text was a joy for me to read and I was especially impressed with the photographs showing some of the oddities that occurred when the Stug was in use with certain units, Things such as curved schurzen and rain guard over the gun opening; a feature I have not observed before.

Armorama

Another wonderful book from Dennis Oliver in the Tank Craft series that will prove inspirational for model makers building the Sturmgeschütz in this theater.

MAFVA

It succeeds in its aims with a wealth of detail and some pretty stunning eye-candy to illustrate the book. Production values are high, and the subject is well researched. There is a wealth of pictorial information in the book, some surprising, such as a picture of a Panzer III converted to an assault gun, with liberal use of concrete on the upper hull.

Not Quite Mechanised, Chris Kemp

I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in WW2 German Armour and particularly, the Modeller's who enjoy knocking up the tracked monsters. Dennis Oliver has done us proud with this work.

Rating: Five out of five. Superb book!

Army Rumour Service (ARRSE)

The newest installment in the Tank Craft series and I love it. I am a huge fan of the Military Machines of the German army during World War II so look forward to each edition covering these awesome vehicles. I totally recommend the entire series for the modeler and historian alike!

Ray Stryker Ace, Scale Models & Dioramas of World War II (Facebook)

Another volume that can not miss on the shelves of the model maker and the historian, to illustrate an armored vehicle , perhaps not beautiful to see, but that made itself very useful for the German war effort.

This is another excellent book by Dennis Oliver in the Tankcraft series. Tremendous detail about the units engaged on the Western Front in 1944/1945 supported by fascinating photographs. Included are the modelling options and one need look no further to know how to finish these models. Highly recommended.
