A sense of this provocative book’s direction can be found as early as page 26 where, following mention of the 1945 technology-gathering mission to defeated Nazi Germany led by the Bristol Aeroplane Company’s Sir Roy Fedden, the author asks, ‘The reader may indeed wonder, given such all-wing expertise at Bristol, how on earth the lumbering Bristol Brabazon came about’.
If we throw into this mix talk of ‘disc-effect’ – flying saucers to the layman – this is an excellent, even essential, work for any aeronautical historian with a liking for geo-political machinations.
