Primer for the Finite Element Multidisciplinary Analysis Computer Program - STARS is a companion publication which includes description of several new modules in STructural Analysis RoutineS (STARS), a multidisciplinary, finite element-based, graphics oriented, linear and nonlinear analysis tool. It addresses a number of disciplines as structures, heat transfer, linear aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, acoustics, propulsion, controls engineering and their interactions. Each individual analysis module is general-purpose in nature and is effectively integrated to yield aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic solutions to complex engineering problems. Examples of advanced NASA Dryden Flight Research Center projects analyzed by the code in recent years include the X-29A, F-18 High Alpha Research Vehicle, Hyper-X/X-43, and SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy). Extensive graphics capabilities exist for convenient model development and post-processing of analysis results. The program is written in modular form in standard FORTRAN language to run on Microsoft Windows-based PCs. It provides a brief summary of theoretical formulation and solution flow charts, detailed systems description, user's guide, various analysis runstreams, data inputs for a variety of example problems, and summaries of the solution results. The associated software, along with the input data files for a variety of test cases, will enable efficient and economical solutions to a wide range of aerospace and other practical engineering problems.
