This new volume from Martin Bowman examines the first three years of the Second World War, consolidating first-hand accounts from German fighter pilots caught up in some of the most dramatic night time conflicts of the early war years.
Viewing Bomber Command's operations through the eyes of the enemy, the reader is offered a fresh and intriguing perspective. Set in context by Bowman's historical narrative, these snippets of pilot testimony work to offer an authentic sense of events as they played out.
Overall this is a useful book, packed with valuable eyewitness accounts, but perhaps not as readable as it could have been.

The author has established a solid reputation for accurate aviation histories of WWII that add valuable knowledge and insights to the subject. If you think everything that can be said about the WWII air war has been said, here is a book to challenge your belief. – Most Highly Recommended.

A very detailed account, and it must have taken a lot of work to tie up the German accounts with the RAF records as well. It is one of those stories that tells the personal accounts as well as taking in the changes in equipment and systems on both sides over the years, as each tried to outwit the other. It makes for an interesting read.

About Martin W Bowman
With well over 100 published books, MARTIN W. BOWMAN is one of Britain’s best-known aviation historians and authors. Specialising in Second World War history and post-war aviation, Martin’s interest in these subjects was driven by the prolific number of RAF and USAAF air bases that were established in his native East Anglia. His previous books have included works such as Legend of the Lancaster, Confounding the Reich, Duxford and the Big Wings, as well as numerous titles in the exhaustive Air War series, which, between them, provide extensive coverage of operations carried out on D-Day and during the Market Garden offensive at Arnhem.
