Since it was first published in 1989, Men of the Battle of Britain, the complete third edition of which was published in 2015, has become a standard reference book for academics and researchers interested in the Battle of Britain. This remarkable publication records the service details of every airman who took part in the Battle of Britain, and who earned the Battle of Britain Clasp, in considerable detail. Where known, an individual’s various postings and their dates are included, as are promotions, decorations, and successes claimed whilst flying against the enemy. There is also much personal detail, often including dates and places of birth, civilian occupations, dates of death and place of burial or, for those with no known grave, place of commemoration. There are many wartime head-and-shoulders photographs.
Inevitably, the passage of time ensures that there is a constant re-evaluation of the wealth of information contained within Men of the Battle of Britain. At the same time, since the 2015 edition it has been possible to expand many individual entries, some 330 in total, to give some idea of the wider social context around the aircrew who earned the Battle of Britain Clasp. This has been achieved by reference to existing sources, including information supplied by The Few themselves and their relatives over many years, as well as new research.
This invaluable supplement to the 2015 edition ensures that these additions and revisions are available to all researchers, historians, enthusiasts and general readers.
Ken Wynn’s Men of the Battle of Britain, which was first published in 1989, quickly became the standard reference book for academics and researchers interested in the men who fought the Battle of Britain and it needs little introduction. The original work is essentially an alphabetic roll of the 2,900 or so men who qualified for the Battle of Britain clasp to the 1939/45 Star with each entry containing brief biographical details, individual records of participation in the Battle and, where appropriate, details of their subsequent service. Most entries are accompanied by small black and white portrait photographs. This latest Volume follows the style of the last 2015 edition and provides additional details for around 400 of the Battle of Britain participants. As such it does not replace the earlier 2015 edition but is an essential Supplement to it and highly recommended.

The “Men of the Battle of Britain” has been revised and is produced by Frontline Books in association with The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, with this new book being issued as a supplementary volume. ‘The Few’ came from Britain, the Commonwealth and from countries overrun by the Nazis. Their stories are told in brief profiles that have been updated to include additional information – Most Highly Recommended

This book provides the modeller with written information on the people who fought on the British side of the Battle of Britain. The text is well presented and provides a good deal of information previously unavailable in one place if available at all.

All-in all happy with this extra book. Of all profiles, not only the changes have been implemented, but the completely new profile. What a work to keep track of everything. Continue with this Kenneth! The books are a great addition on my bookshelf.

Ken Wynn, from his base in New Zealand, made an enormous contribution to recording the history of the Battle of Britain as did those who assisted him, including the late Bruce Burton who spent many hours immersed in the official records. The Memorial Trust salutes all that effort and achievement. It is determined to ensure that not only is the information preserved for future generations but that it is expanded and improved with the benefit of all the research carried out in recent years and the release of more records.

A great starting point for investigating the lives and careers of hundreds of pilots who spent the best years of their youth defending their country, and who deserve to be honored every day.

This is the type of book, someone like me who loves reference type books absolutely adores. It’s about a subject I love reading about and it has all the information required in great detail about all the people of importance. It’s a bit like genealogy in that this all information and detail that is known as fact, and it’s collated together in this one fine volume. This book has information of over 3000 men all in alphabetical order, the book also contains at the back a memorial list, glossary and a list of all the units and squadrons involved. This is a brilliant book indeed, I love it so much you’re going to have to prise it out of my cold dead hand. A 5 star rated reference book, recommended to all those that love a good reference book.

If you already have the 2015 edition, then you will want to have this new volume to add to it. If you haven't, and have a serious interest in the Battle of Britain and the men who fought for the 'Few', then the two books really should be among your references I suggest.

It seems to me that to have the complete list it would be necessary to purchase the previous volume(s). However still interesting to read the latest additions.
