Ken Wynn’s Men of the Battle of Britain, which was first published in 1989, quickly became the standard reference book for academics and researchers interested in the men who fought the Battle of Britain and it needs little introduction. The original work is essentially an alphabetic roll of the 2,900 or so men who qualified for the Battle of Britain clasp to the 1939/45 Star with each entry containing brief biographical details, individual records of participation in the Battle and, where appropriate, details of their subsequent service. Most entries are accompanied by small black and white portrait photographs. This latest Volume follows the style of the last 2015 edition and provides additional details for around 400 of the Battle of Britain participants. As such it does not replace the earlier 2015 edition but is an essential Supplement to it and highly recommended.

The Memorial Trust salutes all that effort and achievement. It is determined to ensure that not only is the information preserved for future generations but that it is expanded and improved with the benefit of all the research carried out in recent years and the release of more records.

Since it was first published in 1989, Men of the Battle of Britain, the complete third edition of which was published in 2015, has become a standard reference book for academics and researchers interested in the Battle of Britain. This remarkable publication records the service details of every airman who took part in the Battle of Britain, and who earned the Battle of Britain Clasp, in considerable detail. Every individual’s various postings and their dates are included, as are promotions, decorations, and successes claimed whilst flying against the enemy. There is also much personal detail, often including dates and places of birth, civilian occupations, dates of death and place of burial or, for those with no known grave, place of commemoration. Each member where available are typical passport type photographs.

This is the type of book, someone like me who loves reference type books absolutely adores. It’s about a subject I love reading about and it has all the information required in great detail about all the people of importance. It’s a bit like genealogy in that this all information and detail that is known as fact, and it’s collated together in this one fine volume. This book has information of over 3000 men all in alphabetical order, the book also contains at the back a memorial list, glossary and a list of all the units and squadrons involved. This is a brilliant book indeed, I love it so much you’re going to have to prise it out of my cold dead hand. A 5 star rated reference book, recommended to all those that love a good reference book.

If you already have the 2015 edition, then you will want to have this new volume to add to it. If you haven't, and have a serious interest in the Battle of Britain and the men who fought for the 'Few', then the two books really should be among your references I suggest.

It seems to me that to have the complete list it would be necessary to purchase the previous volume(s). However still interesting to read the latest additions.
