The aim of this book is to bring the age-old art of crotchet into the 21st century. Gone are the days where all it was good for was creating placemats and jumpers for your teapots. Aimed at the intermediate crochetier, this book assumes you are already proficient in the basics and are looking to increase your creative output through the use of interesting colour and design. With an insight into ten bespoke patterns that can be easily followed, starting with a cute racoon and progressing to the more advanced sloth. The aim is to introduce you to new ways of approaching crotchet; you will be able to confidently create your own unique animals and patterns upon completion of the book. Each animal created teaches a new technique, from establishing a simple ball; we progress through more elaborate designs with each unique pattern learning new skills and new ideas. Annotated throughout with pictures, and scattered with top tips, you can feel confident that the resources are here to crotchet out of a hole. Easily adaptable, these designs will give hints about new aesthetics for seasonal versions as well as more interesting use of colours to create exciting pieces and inspire a new generation of crochetiers.
5 out of 5 - Delightful

When I first looked at this book I wasn’t sure it was for me, but having read the conclusion to the book, I realised that what the author is trying to achieve here is to teach you the basic body shapes and elements to make any animal you can imagine.
You can use colour to suggest different animals and each face is unique depending on how you finish it. I ended up feeling inspired to have a go and create my own.
I particularly loved the Christmas baubles at the end of the book, crocheting around a plastic bauble to make a delightful racoon and a red fox, then using other patterns in the book as the basis to make a panda and a sloth much to the delight of my grandson.
This would also be a good book to introduce a slightly older child to the delights of crochet as the projects grow very quickly.
A great introduction to amigurumi crochet and crafting three-dimensional creatures.
