Deadly Derbyshire is a guide to murder and manslaughter committed across the full extent of the county, from the murder of Hannah Hewitt in 1742 to John Cotton's killing in 1898. In between, read about the 'fiery' circumstances of the death of John McMorrow, a farm tragedy at Stoney Houghton, killings for 'pittances' : three eggs and a sixpence; also discover unprovoked and wicked deeds as well as numerous suspicious deaths. The book is based on extensive research of newspaper archives, uncovering a large number of cases never previously explored. This compendium complements and accompanies other True Crime titles for Derbyshire published by Wharncliffe, including Foul Deeds books relating to Chesterfield and Derby.

A BRUTAL murder in Belper in 1869 is one of the cases featured for the first time in a new book by a Derbyshire true crime writer.
The book, ‘Deadly Derbyshire’, by author Scott Lomax, features the case of Matilda Hitchcock.
The book features almost 50 real life cases of murder and manslaughter

Belper News

Murders committed across Derbyshire During the 18th and 19th centuries feature in a new book written by a Chesterfield author.

Scott Lomax who specialises in 'true crime' cases, launched Deadly Derbyshire on Sunday. It features 50 murder and manslaughter cases, many of which have been written about for the first time.

They will fascinate anyone with an interest in crime and local history because many of these cases reveal a lot about society in the past.
