This volume of poems was published first in German by Rowohlt and has now been translated into three other languages and illustrated beautifully by the artist and poet Christoph Meckel. Concise and extremely visual, these poems are almost as if they are hewn into stone. The translations appear side by side and open up Hein's individual poetic world even better than many an interpretation might. The illustrations for the cover and each of the five cycles in the book increase the book's aesthetic value. This volume is a part of new series from The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute dedicated to mulitlingual publication. The 25 poems are translated into English, Icelandic, Danish, in addition to the original German.
