Chinese Hordes and Human Waves
Questions and answers from the author, Brian Parritt.
When did you first realize that you wanted to become a writer?
I was serving in an Intelligence appointment in Singapore in 1970 and took part in the Final Handover to the Singapore Authorities. As we hauled the Union Jack down, I thought I would like to make a record of the many small wars that had involved the British in the Far East over 100 years.
What is it about writing that appealed to you?
The books I write are factual and are military intelligence related. Writing gives me the opportunity to tell the story of what happened and then, with the benefit of hindsight, make a judgment of the success or otherwise of the Intelligence contribution.
How long did it take you to write this book?
Three years contemplation and research, one year writing all enjoyable.
What do you like most about your book? Why should we read it?
For those interested in soldiers in combat, this is an easy to read account of the routine, bravery, sadness and excitement of war.
For Historians interested in the political background of deciding to go to war, and the consequences of ordering troops into war, the Korean War offers positive lessons of relevance today.

The Gloster Javelin was designed to be a night/all-weather fighter. It was first introduced into RAF service in 1956 and was retired in 1967. It was a large two-man, twin-engined and delta-winged aircraft. Although extremely rugged in construction pilots were banned from spinning as test flights had proved it impossible to recover. During its service nine different marks were introduced. At first it was armed with four wing-mounted cannon but as technology advanced air-to-air missiles supplemented them. In its role as a night/all-weather fighter it bristled with Britain’s latest radar and interception devices.
This book follows the theme of the ‘from the cockpit’ series and includes development history, the different marks and their subtleties, radar and weapon capabilities, accidents and incidents and many first-hand aircrew experiences of the type. Click here to view this extract.
